Dr. Cassara is Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Science Education at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hoftra/Northwell, Associate Dean|Associate Professor at the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies, and Founding Director and current Director of Simulation Research and Scholarship for the Northwell Health Emergency Medicine Service Line Fellowship in Health Professions Simulation-based Education. At Northwell Health, he currently serves as Vice President of Interprofessional Education, Research and Practice and Medical Director at the Center for Learning and Innovation, its corporate university. Dr. Cassara previously served as Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency and Director of Simulation at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. Dr. Cassara completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine at North Shore University Hospital in 2000 and was accepted as Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in 2001. He completed a Teaching Fellowship sponsored by the Emergency Medicine Foundation and ACEP in 2005. He completed several certificate programs in health professions education, educational research, geriatric emergency medicine, and patient safety. In 2003, he was awarded a Geriatrics Education for Specialty Residents (GSR) Award from the American Geriatrics Society and John A Hartford Foundation, along with co-investigator Dr. Joseph LaMantia, which was used to develop a high-fidelity simulation-based curriculum in geriatric emergency medicine. In 2007, he received a GSR-Dissemination Grant from the American Geriatrics Society and John A. Hartford Foundation, in collaboration with Drs. Ula Hwang and Yasuharu Okuda, which was used to share and improve educational products developed with funding from the initial GSR award. Dr. Cassara previously served as Chapter representative to the ACEP Council and on the Education Committee of the New York Chapter of ACEP. He has active committee appointments in the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), including in the Simulation Academy, Grants Committee, and Fellowship Approval Committee. He completed a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014.
