Dr. Parekh is an AOA graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (2005) and completed her residency in emergency medicine at Vanderbilt (2008) where she had the privilege of being Chief Resident (2008-2009). She completed the ACEP Teaching Fellowship and a Master of Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2021). Dr. Parekh is an associate professor of emergency medicine and currently serves as the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education for the Department of Emergency Medicine and oversees the departmental undergraduate medical education programming, including the Residents as Teachers curriculum and the Teaching Fellowship. As Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education at the School of Medicine Dr. Parekh directs the Immersion Phase, the two-year post-clerkship phase of the curriculum as well as the Portfolio Coaching Program—a longitudinal coaching program designed to foster students’ self-assessment skills and life-long learning practices. Dr. Parekh’s expertise in coaching is recognized in her multiple regional and national presentations on coaching in medical education and the consultations she has provided to other medical schools interested in developing coaching programs. Dr. Parekh’s interests are in assessment, the transition to residency, coaching and the impact of motivation on learning.
