Chihaya Adachi received his Ph.D. from Kyushu University in 1991. In 1995, he became an assistant professor in the department of functional polymer science at Shinshu University. In 1999, he joined the Center for Photonics and Optoelectronic Materials (POEM) in Princeton University as a research staff member. In 2001, he joined the department of photonics materials science and technology for Chitose Institute of Science and Technology (CIST) as an associate professor. Since 2005, he has been back at Kyushu University, where he set up a laboratory at the Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics Research (OPERA) as a professor. He has received several distinguished awards such as the Nishina Memorial Award (2017), Nagoya Silver Medal (2019), and Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers (2019, 2020). He serves on the editorial board of Organic Electronics (Elsevier), Scientific Reports, and CCS Chemistry. His current research interests are organic optoelectronics such as OLED, organic FET, organic solar cells, organic laser diodes, and fundamental photo-physical and electronic processes in organic solid states.
