Color is very important factor to realize images in the display, so superior quality values of displays are not achievable without a higher color gamut. [1] Quantum dot is very promising emission material exhibiting sharp emission spectrum with high efficiency. [2] Samsung developed environmentally friendly InP based QDs, stabilized them in the form of film, and applied them on the blue LED to make white emission as backlight. Thus prepared QLED TV is the world’s first Cd free quantum dot TV. It shows high color purity, but has limitations with LCDs of low contrast ratio and viewing angle compared to OLED TV. Samsung took another challenge of combining the advantages of QD and OLEDs and successfully commercialized QD display at 2022 with good color purity covering BT2020 90%, high contrast ratio, wide viewing angle and high luminescence. The talk will cover the essential technology of quantum dot color conversion pixel developed in Samsung.
