Proximity recognition is used to turn the display off and on by detecting user's ear or face when a user makes a call on the smartphone. This model proposed in this paper uses the on-cell capacitive touch sensor instead of the IR sensor to perform proximity sensing with equivalent performance. Environmental noises including display noises are predicted and eliminated by machine learning algorithm. The model can reliably detect the approach of a conductor from a height of 23mm within 7 frames.
