Projected capacitive touchscreens (PCAPs) are popular for consumer applications, but using them in a harsh environment remains difficult. The guidelines and recommendations for consumer industry touch screens are not sufficient to cover their implementation in cockpits/flight stations, thus, a new standard has been introduced by SAE: ARP60494. Prior to the first introduction of PCAP on board the Airbus A350, numerous qualification tests were carried out for product certification, the results are presented and discussed in this article.
