In this talk I will summarize recent developments that have been undertaken at ICFO about colloidal quantum dot light emitting technology in the short-wave infrared. The first part of the talk will be devoted on our progress in developing broadband light sources, including electrically driven LEDs as well as optically pumped downconverters. In the second part of my talk I will focus on our recent developments in achieving for the first time colloidal quantum dot lasing at the telecomm wavelengths operating at room temperature and further discuss the underlying physics and roadmap towards practical implementations.
