Lots of technologies have been proposed to improve the visibility of text on displays. Particularly, Microsoft's ClearType technology which is well-known to improve the horizontal resolution by controlling the grayscale of R/G/B sub-pixels individually. Though this technology is a standard especially in Windows OS, it is widely known to be the best way to improve the font quality regardless of OS type. However, based upon our experiment, this technology is effective to Stripe type structures such as LCDs but its effectiveness is quite low in S-Stripe type structures such as OLEDs. In this paper, we conduct a research and propose the best way that can improve the legibility of text processed with ClearType based upon our subjective evaluation in OLEDs.
