Doctor/Colonel Julia R. Plevnia, DDS, FACS, FACD
Dr. Julia R. Plevnia has had a remarkable career in the military (US Army) and the private sector. She is a partner of Dry Creek Oral Surgery and USOSM, which is a private practice in Parker and Englewood, Colorado. She practices a full scope of clinical surgeries and has an independent surgery center. She has been a member of the facial trauma panel for 11 years that covers all the Centura Adventist Hospitals in Colorado and all their Urgent Care Centers
Dr. Plevnia was born in Bad Axe, Michigan and was the youngest of four sisters. She attended Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, where she earned a dual bachelor’s degree. Dr. Plevnia received her Doctorate Degree from the University of Michigan Dental School, which is the #1 ranked dental school in the United States and ranked #1 Internationally. She was also the recipient of the Army’s HPSP (Health Professions Scholarship Program) from the US Army.
On graduation day, Dr. Plevnia was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Army. Dr. Plevnia was stationed in the Washington DC area for 8 years working on the faces of military personnel that were severely injured in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan. After completing her Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Program, Dr. Plevnia was immediately retained at Walter Reed/Bethesda Naval Hospital to teach at the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. She was also a mentor for the Advanced Education General Dentistry Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center OMFS Program, in Tacoma, WA and Fort Carson, in Colorado Springs for 5 years years. Dr. Plevnia transitioned off active duty to the Army Reserves and the National Guard as the State Dental Officer by request from Medical Detachment Commander. COL Plevnia was then selected to be the Colorado State Surgeon for the past five years, and as of April 2, 2020 became the Joint State Surgeon leading the Joint Medical Planning Group, amid the Covid 19 crisis. Her most recent additional duty is an Adjunct Trauma lecturer at the Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic.
Dr. Plevnia practices a full scope OMFS with orthognathic surgery, dental implants, extractions, bone grafting, TMJ and pathology with facial trauma and reconstruction.
Dr. Plevnia is very active in AAOMS. She has been the Colorado delegate for over 12 years and is currently the Caucus V Chairperson. She serves on the coding committee, the Colorado State Advocacy Chair and participates on Day on the Hill yearly. She has participated on the OMSNIC committee for case review. She has been an ABOMS board examiner and case writer for over 6 years.
Dr. Plevnia is married to her husband Anthony for 20 years and has two sons, Harrison and Preston. Doctor/Colonel Plevnia loves to teach, do surgery, give back to her surgical specialty, participate with her son’s sports and school programs and has proudly served in the Army for 25 years.
