Lisa Simmons is an active self-advocate and is passionate about helping others with IDD build the lives they want. She is the current President of the Southeast Texas Self-Advocates and Secretary of The Arc of Texas. She is also the self-advocate representative on the Board of Directors for the Texas Chapter of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD). Lisa was one of the original peer support specialists trained through the TCDD grant and is one of only two self-advocates to be promoted to Senior Peer Support Specialist, providing guidance and supervision to other peer support specialists serving clients. Lisa has presented on peer support at the Texas Advocates Annual Conference.
