University Compliance Officer, Associate Vice President, Research Compliance and Conflict of Interest

Stephanie Guzik, RN, BSN, MBA, CHRC is the University Compliance Officer (UCO) at Rush University and is an Associate Vice President at Rush University Medical Center. Ms. Guzik provides leadership and advises on the university’s many compliance obligations on the local, state and federal level. Ms. Guzik and her team provide regulatory compliance support to further the education, research, and service missions of Rush University. In this capacity, Ms. Guzik reports directly to the Rush University Board of Governors and the RUSH system chief compliance officer.
Ms. Guzik is an innovative leader who has extensive experience and expertise in compliance, conflict of interest (COI) and risk assessment as well as ethics. She joined Rush in 1996 as a critical care nurse and transitioned to research conducting sepsis and interventional heart and vascular research. During this time, she conducted Phase I-IV trials that included novel drug, device, combination product, gene and radiologic therapies. In 2004 she began her career as a compliance professional in the research compliance/integrity area and has been in this field for over 15 years. Ms. Guzik earned leadership positions in research compliance, integrity, and conflict of interest and is an institution-wide resource serving on multiple campus compliance, enterprise risk, and research committees and other local and national committees. Ms. Guzik is the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) at the University. In 2018, Ms. Guzik joined the Association of American Medical Collages (AAMC) Steering Committee on Conflict of Interest in Academe (FOCI Academe) and serves as teaching faculty for COI 101 workshops and co-chaired the AAMC’s 2018 conference.
Ms. Guzik earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Valparaiso University and a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University. She is certified in healthcare research compliance. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member in the College of Nursing.
