Lisa Anderson-Shaw, MSN, MA, DrPH, HEC-C teaches in the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Department of Medical Education as well as Loyola University College of Nursing and College of Medicine. Her area of expertise is in clinical ethics and research ethics. She served as director of the Clinical Ethics Consult Service at the University of Illinois Medical Center (UIMC) in Chicago where she helped to design and implement the hospital based ethics consult service. She was a member of the UIMC Ethics Committee for 20 years and served as the committee co-chair. She currently sits on the RML Specialty Hospitals IRB Committee. She is a licensed and board certified Advance Practice Nurse with over 30 years of nursing experience, most of which has been in the critical care areas.
She is an Assistant Professor at Loyola University, Chicago, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate clinical ethics and health policy courses. In addition, she is a member of the Ethics Committee and provides clinical ethics consultation service to Trinity MacNeal Health Systems in Berwyn, Gotleib hospital, and Loyola Medical center in Maywood, Illinois and RML Specialty Hospitals in Hinsdale and Chicago. She is a member of the RML system institutional review board.
She is currently on the Executive Leadership Task Force for POLST-Illinois, (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment) working with stake holders all over Illinois to establish the POLST program for the Illinois Department of Public Health. She is a member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) and serves Chair on the ASBH Clinical Ethics Core Competency Committee .
Dr. Anderson-Shaw has been published extensively, including the Journal of Medical Ethics, the Journal of Clinical Ethics, Chest, The American Journal of Bioethics, Journal of Nursing Administration’s Healthcare Law, Ethics & Regulation, Bone Marrow Transplantation and the Journal of NeuroOncology. She is the Chief Editor of the editorial board for The Illinois Nurses Foundation Journal of Nursing in Illinois and reviews for AMA Journal of Ethics, Critical Care Medicine, Transplant, American Journal of Bioethics, The American Journal of Transplantation, Journal of the Rural Healthcare Association, and the Journal of Pediatrics. She is an Associate Editor for the international Journal of Bioethics Inquiry. She serves as chair of the Illinois Gift of Hope Ethics Committee and is a frequent speaker at national and international bioethics meetings.
