Surgical Oncologist and coordinator of the Melanoma Clinic of NCI (Instituto Nacional de Cancerología) Mexico since March 2001 to date. I studied Medicine at School of Medicine of Anahuac after that, I did two postgraduate programs in General Surgery (1994 to 1998) and Surgical Oncology (1998-2001) in NCI Mexico. Additionally, I had the opportunity to do a Surgical Oncology fellowship at Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mount Sinai of Miami, Florida (1997); Laparoscopic Advanced procedures at Texas Endosurgery Institute of San Antonio, Texas (1997-1998) and Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Daniel den Hoed Cancer Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands (2002).
I am specialized in treatment of Melanoma, Soft Tissue Sarcoma, Sentinel Node Procedure in Melanoma and Breast Cancer, advanced GI cancer and Regional Cancer Treatment Techniques such as isolated perfusion of extremities and organs and HIPEC. Furthermore, I developed the perfusion programs in several hospitals in México and Latin America.
Former President of Mexican Society of Oncology (SMeO, by its acronym in Spanish) (2020 – 2022), and Melanoma Committee of same association since 2005 to 2019, and founder President of the Latin-American Society of Surgical Oncology (LASSO).
I have authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and monographs. I served as Melanoma associated section editor in the Annals of Surgical Oncology, member of the Executive Council as International Representative of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) from 2015 to 2018 and founder of the “Best of Society of Surgical Oncology Meeting” in México (2010 to date).
I studied a MSc in Public Policy (MPP) at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM, by its acronym in Spanish). The main research projects to date are in the genesis of acral lentiginous melanoma, targeted therapies, isolated limb perfusion and molecular sentinel node analysis, and Public Policy in Health Care.
