Charles Peterfy, MD, PhD, is founder and CEO of Spire Sciences, providing central image analysis and image-quality control services for clinical trials. He is a board-certified radiologist with fellowship training from University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and a PhD in Pharmacology and Therapeutics from McGill University. He was attending radiologist at UCSF for seven years, where he also served as Director of Arthritis Research for the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group. In 1998, he co-founded Synarc (currently Clario), an international imaging core lab, and served as Chief Scientific Officer for 11 years. In 2009, he founded Spire Sciences. He was also co-founder and President of the International Society for Musculoskeletal Imaging in Rheumatology (ISEMIR), a non-profit organization aimed at advancing research and education in imaging for clinical rheumatology, and a member of the board of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, accrediting imaging facilities and hospitals for MRI.
Dr. Peterfy is an internationally recognized leader in imaging for clinical trials, and has been developing, validating and implementing innovative imaging techniques for 30 years. Dr. Peterfy has conducted hundreds of clinical trials with imaging across a range of disease areas especially musculoskeletal disorders, and he pioneered many of the image acquisition techniques and image analysis methods currently used to study rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis in clinical trials. He also developed the Tumor Volume Score, modified-RECIST and Tissue Damage Grading methods specifically for evaluating tenosynovial giant cell tumor.
