Dr. Somaiah is an Associate Professor of Sarcoma Medical Oncology and serves as Deputy Chair in the Division of Cancer Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She received her medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India and has trained at Drexel University Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Somaiah has 11 years of sarcoma and clinical research experience. She is board certified Hematology-Oncology. Her primary research is focused on soft tissue sarcomas, specifically liposarcomas, GIST, and evaluating the role of immunotherapy in sarcomas. Dr. Somaiah currently serves as the Principle Investigator of three investigator-initiated trials and nine cooperative group and industry-sponsored clinical trials at MD Anderson Cancer Center and has in depth knowledge with extensive experience in the design and execution of clinical trials. She also has multiple ongoing collaborations for translational research, both retrospective and prospective, that help improve the understanding of these rare group of diseases. Dr. Somaiah has been repeatedly named as one of Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors and Exceptional Women in Medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Somaiah enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
