Medical Student
Duke
Hi! My name is Chinedu Okafor and I am a fourth-year medical student at Duke University.
I grew up in San Jose, California and received my BA from Dartmouth College in Neuroscience while playing on the Division 1 Men's Rugby Football Club. After graduating, I worked at a few different start up companies on the software sales team between Silicon Valley and Boston, received a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University, and co-founded a 501c3 non-profit organization that helped underserved pre-med students prepare for the MCAT and matriculate to medical school. While in medical school I have worked for the last 3 years working towards my dream of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon. This has involved publishing research, pursuing experiences, and receiving mentorship and guidance from practicing orthopaedists. Similarly, I also aspire to serve as a mentor to the Nigerian youth of my extended family within the Bay Area as they navigate their own journeys and give back to the community that raised me. Orthopaedics enables me to do this by helping bridge the healthcare gap in a historically underserved community and help restore mobility and function to the aging first-generation elders who guided me in my youth.
Outside of school and work, I am an avid traveler, love to hoop & socialize, and experience new foods and cultures.
Cheers :)
