After receiving my board certification in pediatrics in March 2020, I have started my fellowship training in pediatric hematology and oncology at the University Hospital in Essen. Embedded in the CESS group at Essen, I seek to specialize on treatment and clinical challenges of sarcoma patients. Recently, I have substantially supported the fundation of a hospital unit focusing on AYA patients with oncological diagnoses to address the limited focus and even fewer resources for this patient population. It is our goal to translate the same improvements in survival and quality of life as we have achieved for pediatric oncology.
Based on a postdoctoral fellowship in Washington D.C., USA, funded by a scholarship by German Cancer Aid, I have established my own scientific research group on childhood sarcomas first in Münster, now at Essen University. Scientifically the focus of our research group is translational both focusing on amelioration of currently used anti-cancer compounds and preclinical testing of novel drugs, and deciphering mechanisms of metastasis while identifying novel biomarkers for better stratification.
My goal is to offer a comprehensive clinical care to pediatric sarcoma patients while scientifically enlarging the armamentarium of their therapeutic options.
