Born in Bologna on april 1st 1964, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1988 and he completed the Residency School in Orthopaedic and Traumatology at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute in Bologna, in 1993.
From 1995 to 2014, he was Consultant of Orthopedics and Traumatology (deputy Director since 2001) in the Department of Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery, at the “Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Careggi” in Florence.
From 2014 to 2016, he was the Director of the Department of Traumatology and General Orthopedics at the “Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Careggi” in Florence, a Trauma Center regional Hub.
From 2016 to date, he is the Director of the Department of Orthopaedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at the “Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Careggi” in Florence, a national referral Center for the treatment of musculoskeletal tumors.
From 2016 to date, he is the Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Oncologic Group for Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors of Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Careggi in Florence.
From 2015 to 2021, he was Associate Professor at the University of Florence, at the Department of Surgery and Translational Medicine up to December 2018 and at the Department of Health Science from January 2019.
From 2021 to date, he is Full Professor at the University of Florence, at the Department of Health Science.
He was the author or co-author of 207 scientific publications on books, national and international journals, and more than 340 abstracts published in "Abstract books".
Currently, he is the Director of a national referral Center for the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors and his main field of clinical and research interest is orthopaedic reconstructive surgery. In particular, his expertise focuses on reconstructions of osteoarticular bone defects following oncologic resections, trauma or prosthetic failures, pelvic surgery in both oncologic resections and trauma, skeletal reconstructions with prostheses or bone grafts.
