Dr. Viswatej “Vishu” Avutu graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the Dean’s Scholars Honors Program and attained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He then went on to a combined internal medicine-pediatric residency at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s/Boston Children’s Hospitals, where he served as Chief Resident, and then completed his medical training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in medical oncology.
Vishu is currently an assistant attending in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics at MSK and is a founding member of the Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Program. His clinical expertise is in sarcomas, particularly bone tumors and soft tissue sarcomas commonly found in adolescents and young adults (AYAs). His research interests are in early phase clinical trials using novel therapeutic agents and health outcomes research with a focus on patient reported outcomes and improving clinical trial opportunities and enrollment for AYAs. Vishu also serves on multiple national and international cooperative groups at the interesection of sarcoma and AYAs.
