Dr. Adam Burgoyne is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. He is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in the treatment of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary tumors. He received his medical and graduate degrees from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at UC San Diego Medical Center, where he served as Chief Fellow. He is a physician-scientist with a primary focus on the development and characterization of a cellular state prediction model of sensitivity and resistance to novel drugs that inhibit multiple targets within liver cancer cells. Other research interests include improving the understanding of the tumor genetics and biology of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) to facilitate the use of precision oncology to personalize care for cancer patients. His clinical focus is in the care of patients with GIST and hepatocellular carcinoma, and he co-leads the multidisciplinary liver cancer clinic at Moores Cancer Center and serves as co-leader of the gastrointestinal cancer disease team.
