Consultant Surgical Oncologist

I am a Consultant General Surgeon and Surgical Oncologist on the Sarcoma and Skin Cancer Units at the Royal Mardsen Hospital in London. I qualified in medicine from Oxford University /St Bartholomew's Hospital, London in 1990 then undertook my surgical residency in London and a PhD in the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University Washington DC from 1996 to 2000. I did my fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Royal Marsden from 2002 until I was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon on the Sarcoma and Skin Cancer units in 2004. I now have a specialist practice in limb and retroperitoneal soft-tissue sarcoma and advanced melanoma and other rare cutaneous malignancies. I operate on about 200 cases of sarcoma and 100 cases of complex skin malignancies a year and I run the Isolated Limb perfusion Programme which provides a national service for regional chemotherapy for patients in the UK .
From 2019 to 2022 I have been President of the British Sarcoma Group and, up until 2021, for over a decade I was Chair of the London and South East England Sarcoma Network Advisory group . Within the Royal Marsden I am presently the Clinical Director for Rare Cancers and I am also the Clinical Lead for The Royal Marsden's Skin Cancer Unit. My laboratory research is based at the Institute of Cancer Research in London where I am a Reader in Sarcoma and Melanoma Surgery and also Team Leader of the Sarcoma and Melanoma Surgery Research Group . My laboratory research program in the ICR investigates new therapies for extremity malignancies using isolated limb perfusion, and I am chief investigator on clinical trials combining oncolytic virotherapy with Isolated Limb Perfusion in patients with advanced sarcoma, melanoma and other rare limb malignancies.
