PhD Candidate
Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute/Mount Sinai Hospital, Canada
Jen Dorsey is a PhD student at the University of Toronto in Dr. Rebecca Gladdy’s Lab at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Toronto, Canada. Jen completed her undergraduate degree in Life Sciences at Queen’s University, where she was on the Dean’s Honour List for all four years.
For her thesis work, she is exploring repurposing statins to treat high-grade sarcoma cell lines, as well as determining the in vivo efficacy and toxicity in sarcoma xenograft murine models. This work has been presented at national and international conferences. Jen is also assessing hypoxia in clinical sarcoma specimens and working on developing a metastatic sarcoma murine model to be used for drug testing. Additionally, she works on many other ongoing projects in the lab, including developing a metastatic murine model and better understanding adult RMS through genomic studies. Other lab duties include biobanking sarcomas and creating patient derived cell lines to be used for current and future projects.
Jen has received numerous scholarships and grants to support her graduate research, including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and The Bank of Montreal Studentship in Medical Research (OSOTF). She has also been awarded prizes for her research quality and presentation skills.
