Michael Heinrich, M.D. is currently a Professor of Medicine in the Departments of Medicine and a Professor of Medicine in Cell, Developmental, and Cancer Biology at Oregon Health Sciences University Knight Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon. He earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship at OHSU. His primary research interest is in the development of novel tyrosine kinase inhibitors for treatment of human cancers. Dr. Heinrich's research includes both pre-clinical identification of novel molecular targets and testing of new agents in the laboratory and the clinic. A major focus of Dr. Heinrich’s research activities and clinical practice is the development of new treatments for patients with advanced GI stromal tumors.
