Dr. Javier Martin Broto is a medical oncologist at the Fundación Jimenez Diaz University Hospital in Madrid, and he is leading the ATBSARC (Advanced Therapies & Biomarkers in Sarcoma) LAB at the Institute of Research oof FJD in Madrid and at Seville University (CITIUS III).
He studied Medicine between 1982 and 1988 in the School of Medicine of Zaragoza, obtaining the official title of Specialist in Medical Oncology in Son Dureta Hospital, Palma de Mallorca, in 1994 after successfully passing a national exam. From 1994 to 2014 devoted to sarcoma care in this Hospital, becoming part of the Center of Reference for Sarcoma of Balearic Islands.
Since September 2014 he moved to the University Hospital of Virgen del Rocio in Sevilla to coordinate the multidisciplinary sarcoma team and to apply for a selective number of centers of reference in Sarcoma Care in our Country.
Since April 2021, he and his sarcoma clinical and preclinical team, have relocated to Madrid to Fundacion Jimenez Diaz University Hospital in Madrid. He is coordinating the sarcoma care and research in this new hospital.
Founder Member of GEIS in 1994. (He was GEIS Chairman from 2010 to 2018). He obtained a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology in 2010 focusing on molecular prognostic biomarkers in GIST. Member of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), of European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) where is chair of sarcoma track, of Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), of Sociedad Española de Oncología Médica (SEOM). ESMO Faculty member in Sarcomas from 2010 and he was a member of board directors of CTOS from 2014 to 2018. He is a member of the Steering committee of EURACAN network. Currently, he is coordinator of SELNET consortium a network of sarcoma expert centers from Latin America and Europe, supported by a Horizon2020 grant.
