I obtained my PhD in cancer genomics in UCL. Subsequent to this I undertook a post-doctoral research position at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. This was a unique opportunity and I was embedded with the team involved in the bone sarcoma project of the International Cancer Genome Consortium. During this time, I learned how to use existing code and develop my own informatic tools to read and interpret whole genome sequencing whilst being mentored by the world’s leading genomic scientists. This project was hugely successful and I contributed to many of the subsequent ground-breaking publications resulting in the new molecular classification of bone tumours.
I now lead a sarcoma genomics group where we use whole genome sequencing, other omic techniques and digital pathology to address concepts of cell of origin, differentiation and sarcoma evolution in a clinically relevant setting. Most recently, our laboratory has developed bioinformatic tools which we apply to whole genome sequencing of cancers with complex genomes to unravel biology and inform on disease stratification and prognostication.
