Dr. Franco DeMonte is a professor of neurosurgery and Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he holds the Mary Beth Pawelek Chair in Neurosurgery. He also holds joint appointments as adjunct professor of neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He is the director of the Microsurgical and Endoscopic Center for Clinical Applications Laboratory. He also served as the Chairman of the institution’s Graduate Medical Education Committee, Educational Strategic Planning Committee and Education Council. He received his college and medical school education at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, and received his M.D., cum laude, in 1985. He completed a surgical internship at Victoria Hospital in London, Canada, and was a resident in neurosurgery there from 1986 to 1991. In 1992 he completed his fellowship in skull base surgery at Loyola University-Stritch School of Medicine, as an instructor of neurosurgery there from 1991 to 1992. Dr. DeMonte joined the faculty at M. D. Anderson in 1992 as an assistant professor of neurological surgery. After serving as an associate professor from 1998 to 2004, he became a full professor in 2004. Dr. DeMonte is a member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Society of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Tumor Section of the AANS/CNS, the Society of University Neurosurgeons, and the Houston Neurological Society (past-president) amongst others. He is a past president of the North American Skull Base Society. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (1991) and the American College of Surgeons (1996). Dr DeMonte has authored over 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has contributed over 50 chapters and has written and edited 7 textbooks.
