Associate Teaching Professor

Eric Lock is an Associate Teaching Professor at the Rutgers University School of Social Work. He has taught a wide variety of social welfare policy and administration courses over the past 20 years, beginning as a PhD Candidate at the University of Chicago, followed by lectureships at the University of Washington and the University of Wisconsin, before coming to Rutgers in 2016. Beginning with his doctoral work on youth development and program implementation, Lock has a diverse research background in social policy implementation, public opinion analysis and youth development programs and organizations. Over the past five years, he has applied his research background in other, advisory capacities, including board work with a local non-profit organization and consultation with individual social workers, political action groups and small non-profit groups. Before teaching, Eric worked as a social worker in Chicago, IL, working initially with adults with developmental disabilities and as a youth worker in the Washington Park neighborhood, where he established and ran an outreach program for adolescent males normally overlooked by schools and social services agencies.
