DuWayne Battle is a Professor of Teaching, the Director of the Baccalaureate Social Work program, and the Campus Coordinator of the Baccalaureate Child Welfare Education Program. Dr. Battle is the past President of the National Association of Social Workers – NJ Chapter and the Association of Baccalaureate Program Social Work Directors. He served as a guest editor and reviewer for the Journal of Teaching in Social Work and reviewer for the Journal of Health and Human Services Administration. Dr. Battle is the course coordinator for the “Diversity and Oppression” and “Introduction to Social Work and Social Justice” courses. He developed three fully online courses and created and teaches the “Confronting Anti-Black Racism” course. He includes the Liberatory Consciousness Framework in both his courses and the overall BASW program. His recent work utilized various methods of dissemination on antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) topics: Difficult conversations, honest assessments, and renewed commitments; William M. Ashby – New Jersey’s First Black Social Worker; Examining the social justice implications of physical distancing and the economic stimulus plans; “I can’t breathe”; and The disproportionate impact of the Coronavirus on the African American community. His co-authored articles, entitled, Challenging anti-Black racism across the curriculum: Situating the social work legacy and moving forward; and Measuring student learning in social justice courses: The Diversity and Oppression Scale, provide important contributions to the ADEI literature. He is currently working with colleagues to develop a scale to measure online social, racial, economic, and environmental (SREE) justice engagement.
