Dr. Beth Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. She is the coordinator for the graduate Addiction Studies Program and the HRSA funded Opioid Workforce Expansion Program for Professionals. She consults on the Enhancing Community Responses to America’s Addiction Crisis: Serving our Youngest Crime Victims and ODJJP Opioid Affected Youth Grants for the 30th Judicial Alliance which is an agency that focuses on victims of domestic violence. She is the Northwestern Regional Vice President for the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina Board, Secretary for the NC Foundation of Alcohol and Drug Studies Board, Vice Chair for the Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Swain County Board, Secretary for the Smoky Mountain Harm Reduction Coalition Board, member of the Judicially Managed Accountability and Recovery Court Committee for Haywood County, member of the Mental Health Advisory Board for Vecinos Migrant Farm Worker Clinic, and a consultant for HIGHTS (a mental health and addiction treatment program for adolescents) helping to create programming and training staff on addictive disorders. Dr. Young's research interests include prevention, treatment, and recovery from addictive disorders. She has a strong focus on the role that stigma and belief have in the provision and funding of addictive disorder services. She has also examined perinatal substance use and adolescent substance use in NC.
