PhD Student
University of California, Merced, United States
My research interests involve the college experiences of first-generation students which ranges from navigation of social institutions, relationships, and future goals. Informed by a critical race theoretical lens and mixed methods approach, I hope to understand this communities’ hurdles, successes, and coping mechanisms to help future college students with similar intersecting identities. Over the years, I have participated in several research projects including the effects of after-school programs in Santa Barbara, experiences of second year Latino students, LGBTQ+ refugees, and role identities. I hope to further explore disparities across social, racial and economic structures particularly within the educational system, considering the neighborhood context.
