Dr. Sandra Kalu brings over 5 years of experience as a social worker in private, public, and the non profit sectors. Sandra received a BA in Psychology and Political Science from The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She then obtained her MSW from The Ohio State University and her doctoral degree from the University of Houston. Dr. Kalu’s research agenda explores experiences of gendered racism and gendered racial identity development among Black girls and women. On a large scale, she aims to explore the systemic and structural gendered racism that Black girls and women encounter in various social settings that often lead to a lack of equity and opportunity that impacts their life outcomes. She also aims to explore how implicit and explicit gendered racial socialization messages affect psychological, social, and behavioral outcomes, along with gendered racial identity development among Black girls and women.
