Dr. Dawnetta Smith is an alumnus of UT Arlington receiving both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work. In 2017, Dr. Smith completed her Doctorate in Education at Dallas Baptist University. She began her career with UT Arlington in August 2017 as an Assistant Professor in Practice with the School of Social Work. In January 2018, she became the Assistant Dean of Field Education for the School.
UTA's School of Social Work is one of the largest in the nation with over 2,300 students. In any given semester, between 600-1,100 students are in a field placement across the state, in which Dr. Smith provides oversight. During the 2021-2022 academic year, the Field Office placed over 2300 students and had a 96% succession rate. Recently, Dr. Smith was re-appointed to the Council on Social Work Education’s Council on Field Education which allows her to continue providing a voice regarding best-practices in field education.
Dr. Smith is the proud mother of two children, Floyd “DJ” who is 11 years old, and Grace whom is 4. She is honored to serve her alma mater and the students she encounters!
