Dr. Lacey Sloan is a wanderer who currently lives in Alabam. She received her BSW from the University of Mississippi and her MSSW and Ph.D. in social work from The University of Texas at Austin. Her three intertwining areas of scholarship are social work education and practice in Islamic contexts; sexual rights and gender-based violence; and, environmental justice. Over the last 10 years, using local and Indigenous knowledge and decolonizing practices, she facilitated the development and/or accreditation of 2 MSW programs (NYC & Abu Dhabi [UAE]) and 3 BSW programs (NYC; Somalia; and, Qatar). She recently served as a consultant for UNICEF-Somalia and as President of NASW-Vermont. She was also a steering committee member for development of CSWE’s specialized practice in Environmental Justice.
