Michelle Ridley is an Afro-Latina woman of Black and Dominican descent, embodying a rich cultural heritage that has shaped her identity. As a first-generation college student, she has navigated the academic landscape with determination and resilience. She holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in social work, and her professional journey has been rooted in the field of medical social work, where she has honed her skills in trauma-informed care, addressing women's issues, and providing crisis intervention.
Currently immersed in the pursuit of knowledge, Michelle is a dedicated Ph.D. candidate in social work, driven by a passion for understanding and dismantling the stigma faced by Black and Latina teen mothers. Her research delves into the complex intersectionality of their experiences, examining how societal judgment impacts their mental health and educational trajectories. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to the academic discourse surrounding these issues, fostering awareness, and advocating for policies that empower and support these young mothers in their educational pursuits. Michelle’s academic and professional journey reflects not only a commitment to social work but also a dedication to uplifting marginalized voices and fostering positive change in the lives of those facing societal challenges.
