Doctoral Student/ Graduate Research Assistant
Michigan State University
East Lansing, Michigan, United States
Joana Lampe received both, her Bachelor and Master’s in Social Work from Wichita State University (2019, 2021). At the time of this presentation, she will have started year three of her doctoral studies at Michigan State University’s School of Social Work and anticipates completing the program in the summer of 2026. Her main research interests lie in the intersection of the child welfare system and health care systems, specifically how parental healthcare access may serve as a form of child maltreatment prevention. This interest was born out of her two field placements, one at the Kansas Department for Children and Families, where she worked for a year after graduating with her BSW, and the other at an Urban Indian Health Center in an integrated health care setting. Additionally, her doctoral studies have awakened an interest in social work education, specifically around anti-racist practices and curriculum content. In this context, Joana has been an active student member of the educational policy committee and is advocating for the development of a standalone class that is designated to cover anti-racist, diversity, equity, and inclusion material that goes beyond what can be infused in existing courses.
