Dr. Zhang is an Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi. His research interests include youth behavioral health, child welfare, and social determinants of health. His research has extensively examined interpersonal violence among marginalized youth and factors related to and mechanisms leading to interpersonal violence. His research on youth substance use and mental health focuses on racial and other disparities and explores youth substance use initiation and transition trajectories. In addition, Dr. Zhang has rich experiences with child welfare policy analyses and has conducted studies to examine chronic child maltreatment, family engagement in child welfare services, child-caregiver reporting discrepancies, and the effect of child welfare interventions.
