Kyana Bell is a Research Coordinator III with the Butler Institute for Families. Kyana honors herself, her communities, and her ancestors by doing her part to work toward a just, equitable society in which all children and families can flourish. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Colorado College. Early on in her undergraduate career, Kyana discovered her passion for utilizing research to address social justice issues. During her off-campus semester, Kyana worked on a qualitative study of a restorative justice hub on the Southside of Chicago, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting interview data. Additionally, she worked as research assistant with faculty members in the Colorado College’s Sociology department where she further developed her qualitative analysis skills. Her journey in research and evaluation continued when she started as a Research Coordinator I with the Butler Institute for Families. During her time at Butler, she has continued to hone her qualitative skills through facilitating interviews and focus groups with child-, youth-, and family-serving professionals across the country, conducting qualitative analysis, and reporting. She has also strengthened her quantitative skills through collecting and analyzing quantitative data, and taking graduate-level statistics courses. As she continues to grow in her career, Kyana is fueled by her passion to strengthen programs, systems, and communities using community-based participatory practices and an equity lens.
