Katie Klakos has served as the Director of Practicum Education at The Ohio State University College since 2018. In addition to her leadership role, Katie supports social work students in the following settings: social justice and advocacy, LGBTQIA services, interprofessional and medical social work, and behavioral health. Prior to working for the College of Social Work, Katie has worked in various community-based organizations and spent nine years as a social worker at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Katie promotes anti-oppressive frameworks in all aspects of the practicum experience. She encourages students to learn about prioritizing and implementing wellness and resilience to highlight the importance of self-care as a professional responsibility. She is also certified as a Death Doula, an area of focus that she pursued after the untimely death of her mother in 2021, who continues to uplift Katie in her social justice efforts.
