Joanna La Torre, LCSW (they/she/siya), a queer, multi-ethnic Filipina, is an indigenist PhD student and predoctoral Research Associate at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work in occupied Duwamish and Coast Salish territory. Siya is helping develop a wellness intervention at a boarding school for Native American youth and is interested in developing culturally-based mental health interventions responsive to intergenerational trauma transmission and the heterogeneity of Filipino/x/a Americans. Joanna serves on the core leadership at the Center for Babaylan Studies, the seminal organization of the international decolonizing movement of Filipino/x/a’s.
