Jessica Schmidt, PhD, MSW, is the Assistant Director of the Child Welfare Education Program at PSU’s School of Social Work. Dr. Schmidt has worked on multiple mixed-method research studies with the Regional Research Institute, such as My Life, Better Futures and FUTURES, that evaluated programs aimed at enhancing the self-determination of young people aging out of foster care. She has also worked on research evaluating the impact of STEM mentors on advancing STEM interests and academic outcomes for high-schoolers who experience disabilities. Additionally, she has done community-based evaluation examining a service model for young fathers exiting incarceration. Dr. Schmidt also has experience teaching the research series courses for the MSW program at Portland State University and has been a research mentor, advisor, and field instructor for students in a variety of programs at PSU.
