Dr. James Scherrer is the PI for a HRSA BHWET grant focusing on training social work students to engage in interprofessional practice in Health Professional Shortage Areas to minoritized populations. Students learn specifically empirically-proven intervention methods with children, adolescents, transitional-age youth and/or their families. Dr. Scherrer brings over 40 years of direct practice in child welfare settings as a social worker and an administrator. He designed and currently teaches child welfare practice to students wishing to obtain their Child Welfare Employee License. His research has been on finding various ways of implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in current child welfare practice using models developed in other countries.
