Nikita Aggarwal is a third-year doctoral student in the School of Social Work, University of Maryland, Baltimore. She completed her MSW at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India, where she completed her master’s thesis, Understanding economic violence among survivors of domestic violence. Ms. Aggarwal practiced community outreach and mobilization in the resettled communities of New Delhi, India, and worked with women from marginalized households to secure livelihoods in non-traditional sectors such as commercial driving. Her current research interest is in the area of gender, labor, and immigration. Ms. Aggarwal aims to study the migration journeys of women and children immigrants and refugees who are recruited into informal labor and how an array of risk factors at the structural level further puts this population in vulnerable conditions. She is also interested in the domain of social policy, policy analysis, and evaluation.
