Dr. Nila Ricks is an Associate Professor and Chair, for the Department of Social Work at Texas Woman’s University. She teaches across the curriculum in the areas of research and social work practice. She has been recognized as a Favorite Faculty among her students four consecutive years. She has also received national recognition as an Emerging Scholar by Diverse in 2017. In addition, Dr. Ricks specializes in teen pregnancy prevention and is currently the co-principal investigator of a $4.9 million dollar federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health to reduce teen pregnancy in at risk communities. Dr. Ricks’ research interests include: teen pregnancy prevention, racial disparities in teen pregnancy, risk of teen fatherhood, adolescent substance use, and program evaluation. Dr. Ricks has presented at numerous national conferences and symposiums on a variety of topics surrounding teen pregnancy. Her practice experience includes community behavioral health, school social work, individual, couples, family, and group therapy, and medical social work.
