Dr. Melissa Bessaha is an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare where she also serves as Chair of the Families, Youth, and Transition to Adulthood specialization in the Masters of Social Work program. She is a licensed social worker in New York. Her research centers on mental health and educational disparities during the transition to adulthood particularly around underserved populations and their social relationships and supports. Dr. Bessaha’s work is dedicated to informing culturally responsive practice interventions and policies that promote mental health and higher education equity among youth and young adults.
