Mary E. Hylton is Professor in the School of Social Work at Salisbury University. Dr. Hylton teaches policy practice, human behaivor, social welfare policy, and lesbian and gay lives. Her research focuses on the intersection of civic literacy and civic engagement, in particular the development of democratic forms of engagement, including voting, among young people. Dr. Hylton developed and ran an applied civic literacy project with local adolescents and was also co-principle investigator of the Policy Practice Academy.
