Natalie Kruzliakova, PhD, RDN, LD is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics and Graduate Program Director within the Department of Nutrition and Health Science at Ball State University. Natalie is an early-career investigator with four years of community-based health behavior change research experience in addition to her training. Natalie received her doctoral training in community-engaged research and qualitative and quantitative research methods from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA) and has extensive experience working with populations affected by health disparities and collaborating between academic and community partners, including healthcare providers from public health and clinical settings. Natalie’s research interests and expertise lie within the areas of health literacy, health communication, and utilizing community-engaged approaches such as community-based participatory research to develop and implement health behavior change interventions. Currently, Natalie is serving as principal investigator on the project “Building and Sustaining a Community-Academic Partnership to Improve Maternal Health: Partnership Development and Assessment of Needs Related to Health Literacy, Bias, and Stigma”, funded by the Indiana Minority Health Coalition. The purpose of this project is to establish a community advisory board and patient advisory team to set the stage for assessing local needs and opportunities for improvement in the area of maternal health for expecting and/or parenting women using a community-engaged approach. Natalie is also a member of the Healthy Community Alliance Nutrition Workgroup and the Food Council of East Central Indiana.
