Dr. Mahapatra is an Associate Professor in the Division of Social Work at University of Wyoming, Laramie and currently teaches Human Behavior in the Social Environment I & II (‘Individual & Families’ and ‘Larger Systems’), Current Concepts of Domestic Violence (primarily online using advanced technology of distance education), International Interpersonal Violence, Human Rights (WEB), Social Policy and Social Justice, Research Informed Practice, and Social Work Research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research areas include violence against minority women including immigrant South Asian women, refugees and other immigrant populations, human trafficking, international social work, usage of social network sites and mental health of college students, social and public policy, and social justice. Her overall vision is to invest time in collaboration and development of best practices with women and victimization, train social worker researchers in specific topics about violence and victimization against minority women (including immigrant South Asian women), men and violence, and facilitate multidisciplinary research in the field of violence and victimization.
