Dr. Shirley Gatenio Gabel is a Professor and the Quaranta Chair for Justice for Children at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service. Dr. Gabel’s research focuses on human rights and social policies, particularly those affecting children. She has served as a consultant to UN agencies on child poverty and advocacy and on social protection in developing countries. She was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Bulgaria and a Fulbright specialist in 2014 in Argentina. She is a member of CSWE’s Board of Directors, chairs CSWE’s Commission on Education Policy, is an IASSW representative to the U.N., serves on the IASSW Committee on Human Rights and the Kendall Institute Advisory Board, and is a member of the International Network on Leave Policies and Research. She is the co-editor of the Journal on Human Rights and Social Work. Her book on Human Rights and Justice in Social Work Practice will be published in 2022.
