Dr. Gummelt is the Director of the Social Work Program and Associate Professor at Lamar University. She is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 20 years of experience in direct practice. Dr. Gummelt is an Executive Team member of the Center for Resiliency at Lamar University, the current Board President for Court Appointed Advocates (CASA) of Southeast Texas, a board member for The Recovery Council of Southeast Texas, a founding member of the Alliance of Social Workers in Sports (ASWIS), member of the ExxonMobil Community Advisory Panel, and member of the Lamar University Community Relations Advisory Council. Dr. Gummelt has served as the coordinator and principal researcher for the local “Do the Write Thing” Campaign and as a collaborative researcher on the Jefferson County Adolescent Drug Court grant. Dr. Gummelt’s current research focuses on vulnerabilities and resiliency among at-risk populations and she serves as a faculty mentor for student research including recipients of the McNair Scholarship, Beck Fellowship, Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Grant, and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF).
