Jen Murphy is currently a fourth-year PhD candidate at VCU’s School of Social Work. Jen received
her Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Virginia Tech and her Master of Social Work
degree from Tulane University, specializing in disaster mental health and trauma. While at
Tulane, she also earned her Master of Science degree in Disaster Resilience Leadership Studies.
She previously worked as a school social worker in central Virginia and as a trainer and
facilitator of restorative practices for schools in the Greater New Orleans area. Jen’s research area broadly includes the role of school mental health in the overall academic success and well-being of PreK-12 students and the role of school social workers in promoting positive mental health outcomes.
